Prior to Newcastle United’s first home game under the ownership of PIF, the Reubens and PCP the Reuben Foundation offered to double the amount collected on match days for the rest of the 2021-22 season and that commitment continued last season, and in that time £340,000 has been raised for the food bank. Generous Toon fans have donated £170,000 of that with The Reuben Foundation matching every penny.
Speaking to Chronicle Live Jamie Reuben said "I am thrilled to announce that the Reuben Foundation will continue to support the Newcastle Food Bank’s brilliant work for the upcoming 2023/24 season by matching the donations collected at NUFC home games.
"It is an incredibly important partnership for us. We are so proud of and grateful to both the food bank and its fantastic volunteers, as well as to all of the amazing fans and wider Newcastle community who have been and continue to be so generous. Thank you to everyone involved. This year more than ever, the donations mean so much to all of their recipients. Here’s to a great season – both on and off the pitch.”
Responding to the news John McCorry, CEO of the Newcastle Foodbank, said: "To learn that the Newcastle Foodbank will once again receive support from the Reuben Foundation this season is a wonderful boost for the charity.
"In recent years, to have the Reuben Foundation match donations made by Newcastle United fans has meant the Foodbank is better able to assist the growing number of people from across the city who use our services. More people than ever before are now using the Foodbank and our welfare services as many households struggle with food insecurity, which has worsened given the rising cost of living.
"The generosity of spirit shown by Newcastle fans is inspirational and I am delighted that the Reuben Foundation is to match their donations which will be used to benefit local people in need. Our thanks to all Newcastle fans and to the Reuben Foundation for their ongoing support and here’s to another exciting season at St James’ Park.”
This season you will find the NUFC FANS FOODBANK collection point at its usual position on Strawberry Place, opposite Shearer’s Bar.
