Alan Shearer is heading to South Shields this Spring in what promises to be one of the biggest dates in football fans diaries. The former England Captain will answer questions from the fans on all aspects of his career including his time at Blackburn where he lifted the Premier League trophy and of course his boyhood club Newcastle United where he led the team to consecutive FA Cup Finals.

Shearer said, " I'm really looking forward to meeting the fans in South Shields. There is always plenty to talk about on these occasions as far as Newcastle United is concerned but with the World Cup on the horizon i'm sure the fans will be wanting to look at England to."

Promoter Danny Cox of Precision Sports is bringing the current Match Of The Day Pundit to Hedworth Hall in South Shields and is naturally delighted. "It really is a big coup bringing Alan to South Shields. His diary is full 366 days of the year and we have worked hard to make the venues dream a reality. Alan is one of the best after dinner speakers in the business and the fans will go home feeling that they have met a sporting legend and most importantly got value for money. "

The Newcastle United Foundation Toon Times exhibition at the Discovery Museum, which has already attracted record numbers to the venue, will host a talk in with football historian Keith Gregson onApril 10 to help north east fans learn how to trace their footballing ancestors.

‘The Round and the Oval – the story of football and how to find your footballing ancestors’ will cover early footballing history, with special reference to the north east. Keith will also be on hand to give tips on how you can trace your sporting ancestors.

The Toon Times exhibition, which takes supporters on a journey through the Club’s history from it’s humble beginnings through to today’s star studded Barclays Premier League team, has already attracted over 50,000 visitors to the Discovery Museum since its launch in February.

Head of Newcastle United Foundation, Kate Bradley, said: “The talk in with Keith is a great opportunity for passionate north east football fans to find out how they can trace their footballing ancestors and help support the Newcastle United Foundation at the same time.  We have been overwhelmed by the number of visitors that have already visited the exhibition and we’re really excited to add this event to the programme.”

‘The Round and the Oval – the story of football and how to find your footballing ancestors’ with writer, historian and musician Keith Gregson takes place on Thursday 10 April at 2pm at the Discovery Museum.  Tickets are priced at £4 and can be purchased online here.

Asset Strip!

Asset Strip!
The news that the bidding process for the club owned land on and around Strawberry Place that is currently utilized as the Metro carpark  is entering the next phase, brings home how ill thought out commercial decisions can jeapordise all future potential growth of the football club.

As NUST state, these plans to sell the land for development puts  a cap on the capability of future owners of the club to develop the club further.

“None of this looks like being part of a strategy to have a growing, sustainable football club that is doing everything it can to increase its own income and thus its sporting competitiveness.

“It looks very much like part of a plan to asset strip NUFC and make short-term decisions that are in the interests of the owner, rather than the long-term future of the club.”

As a football club we should be looking at past mistakes made in the name of commercial expediency and for that you need to look no further than Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.  The Chelsea Hotel complex has completely stymied any possibility for Chelsea increasing their capacity at the Bridge. We should not allow the club to sleepwalk into a similar situation. Enough is enough Mr Ashley; stop asset stripping and if you have no plans to build this club then sell it as a full package, not as pieces at a car boot sale.
