Dortmund Slip Up Again in Bundesliga defeat to StuttgartBorussia Dortmund fell to their second Bundesliga defeat in a row on Saturday when they were well beaten by a Vfb Stuttgart side with their own champions league aspirations.
Despite going ahead in the 36th minute through Niclas Füllkrug, who tapped home Julian Ryerson's low cross with what was BVB's first shot on target; in truth Dortmund were second best all round as goals from Stuttgart’s Undav, who put the sides level just before half time and a penalty from Guirassy seven minutes from time gave the hosts all three points Dortmund Top "Group of Death" Following 2:0 Home WinDortmund went top of Group F following their 2:0 home win over Newcastle Utd. Goals from Niclas Füllkrug and Julian Brandt saw off the Magpies as for the second time in two weeks, meaning Howe’s team face an uphill challenge to qualify for the knockout rounds,
Speaking after the game Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic said it was a 'great compliment' for Dortmund to keep two clean sheets against such a formidable attacking outfit” Terzić Not Underestimating Newcastle ThreatSpeaking ahead of his sides Champions league clash with Newcastle United, Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić said “We don’t need a warning about Newcastle. We know how good they are. They recently beat Manchester United and Arsenal. They weren’t happy with their performance in the first leg. It will be an open and intense game.”
“It was a very intense start. Newcastle was brave, aggressive, pressing high. After 15 minutes, we were able to gain control. We aimed to be even more efficient in the spaces they provide for us to be successful.” Dortmund Kane'dBorussia Dortmund suffered the indignity of a 0-4 home thrashing by Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker on Saturday. And it was England captain Harry Kane who proved the thorn in their side as he scored a hattrick, his third of the season and second in consecutive games.
Bayern were 2:0 up inside 10 minutes and it would have been no surprise to anyone if the visitors didn’t make it six or seven, such was Dortmund’s woeful defending. But it finished on four and for that the Dortmund faithful can only be grateful. Dortmund Go Second in Group FBorussia Dortmund inflicted Newcastle Utd their first defeat in the competition this season and in doing so climbed above the magpies and into second place in group F. Felix Nmecha's goal on the stroke of half-time proved to be the winner.
Speaking the TNT Sports after the game Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic said: "It wasn't a perfect game plan but a perfect result. We played a perfect first half and showed fantastic fight in the second. "We deserved to win with the first half, and we're really happy. "As a manager, I don't like an exciting group, but when we saw the draw we knew it would be a tough fight until the end - and we're halfway through now. "Everything is quite open. We'll have a new opportunity to find out how far we can go in a couple of weeks." Sluggish Dortmund take the PointsDortmund briefly went top of the Bundesliga on Friday night as they saw off a disciplined Werder Bremen. Their win came courtesy of the only goal of the game from Julien Brandt who latched on to a pass from Emre Can before chipping the ball over Werder’s goalkeeper, Michael Zetterer, in the 67th minute. However, their stay at the top was brief as wins for Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Stuttgart saw then return to fourth place on Saturday evening.
Dortmund come from behind to beat Union BerlinHaving taken a 7th minute lead Borussia Dortmund then found themselves having to come from behind, scoring twice in five second-half minutes to finally see off visitors Union Berlin 4-2 on Saturday to climb to second place in the Bundesliga table.
Unbeaten so far this season, Dortmund sit second on 17 points from seven games , one point behind leaders VfB Stuttgart, who beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-1 Bayer Leverkusen, on 16 points, are in action on Sunday against Cologne. While Champions Bayern Munich, on 14 points, host Freiburg. Terzic Expecting a Different Encounter than Previous RoundDortmund and AC Milan face off against each other tonight for the first time in twenty years in what promises to be an intriguing encounter. Defeat for Dortmund would see them sitting bottom of the group and see their path to the knockout stages start slipping away.
Speaking to the press, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said he expects the game to be very different from his side's opening match in Europe's top club competition - a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago. "No game at this level will be easy. We imagined the game in Paris differently. Tomorrow is our first home game. With our boys and the fans in the stadium, we want to get our first win tomorrow," said Terzic. "It will be a completely different game than in Paris. We want to be more courageous in our work against the ball. Milan's approach is different. But we've done a lot of good things in the last few games, which will be important tomorrow." Dortmund Hit Top Spot after win at HoffenheimMarco Reus was on target for a third straight Bundesliga game as Borussia Dortmund saw off a battling Hoffenheim 3:1 at the Rhein-Neckar Arena.
This was Dortmund’s third consecutive league win lifting them to 14 points, one ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, who don’t play until Saturday when Leverkusen travel to Mainz and Bayern face up against a Leipzig side that have won four of their opening five games. Dortmund took the lead on 18 minutes as Niclas Füllkrug slotted home his first goal of the season. Hoffenheim equalised on 25 minutes through an Andrej Kramaric penalty before Reus slotting in after Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann slipped when he parried a cutback into his path. Hoffenheim made a strong start to the second half and it looked as though the pressure might just pay off when Ramy Bensebaini was dismissed in the 71st minute having earlier picked up a yellow card. However, the game turned back Dortmund’s way when a scintillating seventy-yard solo run by Julian Ryerson in stoppage-time saw him slot the ball past Baumann to give Dortmund all three points. Dortmund 1:0 Wolfsburg.Borussia Dortmund moved up to fifth place in the Bundesliga following their 1:0 home win against Wolfburg on Saturday afternoon.
The games only goal came from veteran Marco Reus who slotted home on 68 minutes. Despite a number of changes to his line up following Tuesdays champions league defeat to PSG, it was very much a case of same as same as for Dortmund coach Edin Turzic as his side failed to inject any real fluency to their play despite having possession for large parts of the game. Attendance at Signal Iduna Park was 81,365 |
Dortmund's Next Fixture
Dortmund face Wolfsburg at home on Saturday afternoon. KO time is 15:30
Terzic Reflects on Disappointing Start
Following his sides 2:0 defeat Dortmund at PSG dortmund coach Edin Terzic had this to say to the assembled press "You can put it nicely and say: we had too much respect. Or you can say that we simply weren't brave enough. We wanted to jump out of positions much more courageously and put the opposition under pressure much earlier and much more aggressively. We lost the ball a lot unnecessarily. When you've won the ball but give it away after three seconds, it makes things even more difficult. We had a pass completion rate of 63 percent in the first half – almost every second pass missed the mark. And then you have to defend a lot and then it becomes difficult to keep your head."
Injury worries for Terzic ahead of PSG Clash
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic will be sweating on the fitness of defender Ramy Bensebaini ahead of their champions league opener against PSG, after the Algerian International was forced off at half-time against Freiburg on Saturday. Gio Reyna missed the trip to Freiburg, but is set to return to the squad on Tuesday.
Thomas Meunier will miss out on a reunion with his former club through injury, while Mateu Morey and Julien Duranville are also sidelined.

Dortmund Win settles the Nerves
Matt Hummels scored twice as Dortmund ran out 4-2 winners at Freiburg on Saturday.
His first came in the 11th minute when from a well delivered corner the veteran centre-back headed the ball beyond the Freiburg keeper for a deserved lead.
However, instead of pressing home their advantage Dortmund sat back and duly paid the price in first half stoppage time with Freiburg scoring twice to turn the game on its head.
A Lucas Hoeler header cut the deficit in the second minute of stoppage time and then Nicolas Hoefler nodded in for the lead with the last move of the first half.
Dortmund regrouped and levelled on the hour, when Donyell Malen scored his third goal of the season.
Freiburg were then reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Nicolas Hoefler and in the 87th minute Hummels got his second before substitute Marco Reus finished things off when he drilled in their fourth in stoppage time for his first goal of the season.

Not all Good News for Terzic

Meanwhile, long term injuries to Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey have seen both players fail to make Dortmund's UCL squad which was announced last week.

Borussia Dortmund: Season to Date
The big news of the close season as far as Borussia Dortmund were concerned was the departure of England International Jude Bellingham who left for Real Madrid in exchange for €103m.
Bellingham was one of 26 players who departed; bringing in a combined €110m as only Ansgar Knauff and Nmandi Collins who left for Frankfurt for €3m and €1m respectively and Jayden Braaf who headed to Hellas Verona for a further €1m warranted any transfer fee. The remaining 22 players were all released on free transfers.
On the incoming front Dortmund invested €62.7m on 5 player, the most expensive being Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg (€30m). He was followed by Marcel Sabitzer (€19m) from Bayern Munich and Niclas Fullkrug (€13m) from Werder Bremen.
Julian Hettwer and Paul Philipp Besong made up the remaining two additions for €0.5m and €0.2m respectively.
Dortmund’s season got off to a winning start with a home victory against Cologne (Koln) but that was followed by consecutive draws against VL Bochum and at home to Heidenheim.
It took until the 88th minute for Dortmund to break the deadlock against Cologne with Donyell Malen forcing the ball home and in doing so ensuring that Dortmund remained undefeated in 20 home games stretching back to last season’s 3-2 loss to Werder Bremen.
And Dortmund can count themselves fortunate to come away with a point at VL Bochum.1:0 down in the 13thminute it took a goal from Malen on 56 to save their blushes and salvage a point they barely deserved.
In their third game of the season Dortmund got off to a flying start and were 2:0 up and cruising with goals from Julian Brandt on 7 and Emre Can on 15 minutes had them seemingly cruising to all three points. But goals from Eren Dinkci in the 61st minute and Tim Kleindienst eight minutes from time saw Heidenheim register theirfirst Bundesliga points at the third attempt following their promotion last term.
Dortmund travel to Freiburg in their next outing before they meet PSG in the Champions league.
Dortmund's disappointing start to the season has led to speculation that head coach Edin Terzic is under pressure and could be replaced by Julian Nagelsmann. Indeed, some in the German press are reporting that Nagelsmann could be installed in the Dortmund hot seat as soon as their visit to Paris and certainly before they face Newcastle Utd if their form and style of football does not improve.
Should they make a move for Nagelsmann they would first have speak to Bayern Munich, as the former Bayern manager is still under contract with the German champions and remains so until 2026 after being sacked in March.
