Its another quick turnaround for Eddie Howe’s injury hit squad as they travel to North London to take on Tottenham on Sunday afternoon in the 4.30pm kick off, live on Sky Sports.
After the disappointment of Thursday defeat at Everton Howe will be hoping his team get back to winning ways against an opponent that seems to bring the best out of the club in more ways than one. Indeed, Newcastle have won 11 Premier League matches away to Tottenham, a total they have only matched against West Ham on their travels.
The opponents also seem to bring out the best in Joelinton with the Brazilian having scored three Premier League goals versus Tottenham. Including his first goal for the club back in 2021.
However, Howe must try and find a solution to his team’s poor away league form that has seen them collect only 5 points on their travels this season.
Jamaal Lascelles hobbled off in the dying minutes against Everton and is rated doubtful. Should Lascelles not make it he will join 12 other teammates already out through injury, leaving Howe with a headache he could do without as he runs out of defensive options. Emil Krafth would appear to be the most suited to slotting into the right sided centreback vacancy that Lascelles absence would create, although he could opt for the left footed Paul Dummett and move Fabien Schar over to his more natural right-side berth.
Spurs too have injury concerns surrounding their captain Son Heung-min while they are already missing long term casualties Ivan Perisic, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dyer, and Manor Solomon.
The Referee is Chris Kavanagh, and he will have Simon Bennett, Dan Robathan as his assistants, while the Fourth official is Tom Bramall. The crazies responsible for VAR this week are Peter Bankes and Harry Lennard.
